The Triumph of the ‘Snakes’
When last we left our intrepid band, they had just holed up in a corner of an underground warren of natural caverns. They had just defeated two giant snake-like things ridden by malevolent reptilian elves, and driven off a third.
Before we began the adventure, I offered the groups something I had only offered perhaps three times in all my years of gaming: a partial do-over. The group had just defeated the snakey things when it was time to quit (and close the store), so they hurriedly decided to hole-up until next time.
I offered them two options: they could hole-up, rest, recuperate and refresh spells, or, they could elect to resume the adventure from the driving off of the third snakey thing. I told them to consider carefully as both choices had consequences. After some friendly bickering, the majority opted for the rest period and unknowingly sealed their doom.
The giant snakey things were not snakes at all; they were Dumokka, -----spoiler deleted-----neither alive nor dead by standard measures They had a collective-consciousness thing going ------spoiler deleted------. Soooo, by holing up over night, they were unwittingly giving the remaining -----deleted---- time to gather. It also gave the Krin Beastmasters (something like a stunted, twisted, reptilian-leaning ranger) time to muster two platoons of trained giant carnivorous apes and assemble an enormous swarm of hoverbirds (nasty little blood-drinking hummingbirds the size of finches -----spoiler deleted-----
This was not the best night for two or three of the players to not show up. In a regular campaign there is no problem with using their PCs as NPCs; tonight two or three other voices might have voted to press on and eschew the rest. Well, we’ll never know.
To summarize, in the order that I remember it happening: the paladin got mesmerized by a dumok and fought the party until they snapped him out of it (more about that later); the dwarf got eaten; the paladin got eaten, a couple more died, so the two remaining magic-users decided to go out like a comet in a blaze of glory. One got poly-ed into a young gold dragon, the other mounted up behind his head and out they went into the larger cavern where they eventually succumbed. They did however, fireball a platoon and a half of apes where they stood, flambé several more in dragon-fire, fricassee several dozen hoverbirds, kill a boatload of Krin and a pair of dumokka. They never even got a sniff of the temple. Damn! We had fun and we were all laughing our butts off because we all knew the next session was the first in a new campaign.
One incident stands out as quintessential old school play. The paladin got zapped really hard (I can’t say more without spoilers, and this does come out in final form in 6 weeks) but the solution was novel, and it worked. The paladin had a Quest spell cast upon him with instruction that were very beneficial to the party, perfectly sane and rational from the point of view of a paladin-type, and succeeded in wresting control of his little one-track paladin mind. In the end, it indirectly killed him, but it worked to get them out of one hell of a jam at the time.
So, Snakeriders 1, Adventurers 0. Next time we start a new campaign with new characters. I explained how I chose to do the new PC’s in another post here on FB as well as on my thread on Dragonsfoot.

Sunday February 19th registration starts at noon and play begins at 1 PM. Cost is $12
Format for the Month Two Event is a 600 point, Modern-Constructed event utilizing at least 300 points of figures from Hulk and/or Superman.
· Soul Gem 3D Objects are Participation Prizes to be awarded upon completion of the event.
· The In-Betweener LE Figures are to be awarded to First, Second, Third players. The remaining In-Betweener figure is random player.
For every participant we will add one booster to the prize pool, in addition there are OP Figures, maps, and objects to be awarded.
The booster's added to the prize pool will be opened at the event's end. In order from first to last, back up to first, each player will pick one miniature from the prize pool, until all the miniatures have been selected. For example, if there were 4 players, four boosters would be opened. In order of picks 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4-4-3 etc. etc.
· The “Nexus of Reality” map will be used.
Players who missed month one can purchase the Infinity Gauntlet LE Figure for $6 additional fee with tournament registration.
For Infinity Gauntlet events One through Seven, all Players receive:
· One (1) Point for Attending event
· One (1) Point per Loss
· Two (2) Points per Win
· Three (3) Points per Event Win
To qualify for the Month 8 Event, each player must have at least 12 points to participate!
Professional Miniature Photo Shoot

Yottaquest is happy to present this opportunity to miniature painters. Barry has volunteered to come in and spend the evening taking pictures of your wonderful miniatures. You can also bring in models you have painted or terrain. Afterwards you will have a nice digital copy to post anywhere you want and send to friends and family all around the world. Please register for one of the slots under our "Register for Events" section. If you need assistance, call the store and we can help!

Barry Sperling will bring his camera, lighting, laptop, and other equipment. He will spend 15 minutes per player to take pictures of your best miniatures. The pictures will then be made available online through Dropbox (or equivalent). Barry will edit a batch of pictures for each hobby enthusiast. These edited group of pictures will then be posted on Facebook and other websites. There is no charge or fee. Barry will have rights to the pictures and will give credit to the painter/owner. HeroClix Infinity Gauntlet
The contest begins for the greatest prize of them all! The Infinity Gauntlet has been found and now heroes and villains from all over the galaxy have arrived to do battle for nothing less than control of all they survey! Can you be the first to obtain all six Infinity Gems and assemble the full might of the Infinity Gauntlet?
Saturday January 14th doors open at 9 AM and play begins at 10 AM. Cost is $30
Format for the Month One Event is a 300 point, Sealed event utilizing two (2) Hulk Boosters per player.
Inifinity Gauntlet 3D Objects Participation Prizes to be awarded upon completion of the event.
Adam Warlock with Infinity Gauntlet LE Figures will be awarded to First, Second, and random player.
The “Soul World” map is used in the Month One event. (Will also be used for Month Two event).
Infinity Gauntlet Score Instructions
For Infinity Gauntlet events One through Seven, all Players receive:
· One (1) Point for Attending event
· One (1) Point per Loss
· Two (2) Points per Win
· Three (3) Points per Event Win
To qualify for the Month 8 Event, each player must have at least 12 points to participate!

March was a great month here at Yottaquest. HeroClix Giant Size X-Men were released and was a huge hit! We hosted a Living Forgotten Realms game thanks to Random. Our convention of the month goes to CincyCon! This was its second year and turnout was better than last year. I don’t know the official number, but my guess would be around 250 to 300 people. Yottaquest did not have a booth, however, I was there all day long meeting people and handing out gift certificates to lucky attendees. At the con I met some great folks with from VicTim Games LLC. They were debuting a new board game, Scrumbrawl. I liked the game so much we picked up a case immediately for the store! So come in and check it out. They even gave us a demo copy!
Speaking of board games, our “All Day Board Game Affair” was a huge hit. Players came in all day and played scores of games. Check out some of the pictures on our Facebook page. YQ 101 events continued with topics such as Comics, Warhammer 40k, Pathfinder RPG and EDH. Magic the Gathering for March was big! The Mirrodin Besieged Game Day had a great turnout and we gave away a complete set of Mirrodin Besieged to first place. The other big MTG event was our Legacy event where the winner received an Unlimited Tundra. You asked for more Legacy event and we are delivering. Now for the casual player we instituted the new MTG Commander (EDH) flights. These only require 4 people and everybody wins something!
The month wrapped up with our Sunday night movie “Darby O’Gill and the Little People”. An appropriate March film with a very young Sean Connery. Movie nights are free and we always give out free popcorn! So like I said, March was a great month. April is chocked full of even more gaming goodness and the Yottaquest family will be growing. We are hiring and I am expecting to have the new person (whoever that may be) on the schedule soon.
